Attorneys Fred Pritzker and his E.coli team are investigating an outbreak of E. coli O157:H7 infections that occurred during early May. As of May 20, 2013, eleven (11) cases have been identified. Ten of the cases were Georgia residents and one (1) was from South Carolina. Seven (7) people have been hospitalized as a result of their infections, and five (5) of these patients have been diagnosed with a complication called hemolytic uremic syndrome (HUS), a severe complication of an E. coli infection that causes kidney failure, heart attack, stroke, seizures, brain damage, respiratory distress, sepsis, pancreatitis and a host of other serious medical problems. HUS-E. coli O157 can be fatal.
People sickened in the outbreak got sick in early May, from May 4 to May 8, 2013. Ten of the 11 case-patients reported eating at the BBQ Shack in Toccoa, (GA) during the weekend of May 2-4, 2013. No other common exposures were reported among case-patients.
The E. coli-tainted food responsible for the illnesses has not yet been identified. Even if it is never found, E. coli and HUS victims and their families have the legal right to sue the BBQ Shack for compensation, including medical expenses, lost income (time off of work), pain, emotional distress, and other damages. Fred and his Bad Bug Law Team have won many cases where the specific food source was not determined.
Because E. coli and HUS have long-term health consequences, it is important that money is sought to compensate for this risk. Our E. coli lawyers have won millions for our clients in personal injury and wrongful death lawsuits, and you can contact them for a FREE consultation here.
