Were You Injured in a Food Truck Explosion?

Causes of Food Truck Explosions

Propane is the leading cause of food truck fires and explosions, accounting for 68% of incidents according to the National Fire Protection Association (NFPA). These explosions, resulting from propane tank gas leaks and structural failures, have been responsible for nearly all food truck fires and explosions involving severe burn injuries and fatalities in recent years.

Burn survivors and their families have filed propane explosion lawsuits against various companies for causing devastating food truck explosions, including:

  • Propane tank manufacturers if a defective tank caused the food truck explosion.
  • Equipment suppliers and manufacturers who provided defective propane components such as valves, regulators, or hoses.
  • Manufacturers of other food truck components like electrical systems.
  • Gas suppliers if they improperly filled the tank or failed to detect issues during inspection.
  • Other third-party companies whose negligence contributed to the food truck explosion.

In 2014, a deadly food truck explosion in Philadelphia prompted the NFPA to implement new safety regulations that address fire risks including propane tank storage, ventilation, and fire suppression systems. In the high-profile case, burn victims and their families obtained a substantial lawsuit settlement after suing U-Haul for failing to properly inspect a propane tank that caused the explosion.
