Legionella, the bacteria that causes Legionnaires’ disease, was found during recent water tests at Dignity Health St. Rose Dominican Hospital, Siena Campus in Henderson, Nevada. In a statement to KNTV, the hospital said it has taken measures to treat the water and is working with health officials from the Southern Nevada Health District and the Nevada State Department of Health on a plan to address this issue.
Part of the Dignity Health system, which operates healthcare facilities in Arizona, California, and Nevada, Rose Dominican is a 366-bed hospital located at 3001 St. Rose Parkway.

Legionnaires’ Disease – What You Need to Know
Legionella bacteria are found in nature but grow best in the warm water of manmade structures. People get Legionnaires’ disease, a severe form of pneumonia, when they inhale water vapor contaminated with Legionella bacteria. It is not contagious.

Most people who get Legionnaires’ disease require hospitalization. About 10 percent of cases are fatal.
