Outbreak Prompts Wolverine Ground Beef E. coli Recall

Wolverine Packing of Detroit has issued an E. coli recall for ground beef linked to an outbreak in Minnesota that has sickened at least 15 people hospitalizing two of them. The recalled ground beef and ground beef patties were shipped to restaurants nationwide.

The recall includes 167,277 pounds of fresh and frozen ground beef products that may be contaminated with E. coli O157:H7. The establishment number “EST. 2574B” appears inside the USDA mark of inspection.

  • The “use by” date for the fresh products is 11/14/2024 .
  • The frozen products are labeled with production date 10 22 24. 

The U.S. Department of Agriculture’s Food Safety and Inspection Service (USDA FSIS) was notified of illnesses on November 13, 2024. Working together, officials from FSIS and the Minnesota Departments of Agriculture and Health discovered a link between the ground beef products from Wolverine Packing Co. and this illness cluster.

As part of the outbreak investigation, the Minnesota Department of Agriculture collected and tested ground beef samples. On November 20, 2024, a sample tested positive for E. coli O157. To date,

The outbreak includes 15 illnesses and two hospitalizations. The patients said the onset of their illnesses began on dates ranging from November 2, 2024, to November 10, 2024.
