Rainbow Farm Eggs Linked to Salmonella Outbreak in Maine

At least five people in Maine developed Salmonella infections after eating Rainbow Farm Eggs, according to the Maine Department of Agriculture, Conservation and Forestry (DACF). An investigation is underway.

Rainbow Farm has issued a recall and temporarily halted distribution. The farm will clean and sanitize equipment after testing for the source of contamination is complete and before restarting operations.

Symptoms of a Salmonella Infection

Eggs are a common source of Salmonella outbreaks. Currently, another ongoing Salmonella outbreak is linked to eggs produced by Milo’s Poultry Farm.

Symptoms of a Salmonella infection usually develop within six to 72 hours of exposure. They include fever, nausea, abdominal cramps, and diarrhea that can be bloody.
