Kandy Cantaloupe Salmonella Recall at Walmart, Other Stores

Kandy brand whole cantaloupe sold at Walmart and other stores has been recalled for Salmonella. Consumers who have recently purchased whole cantaloupe should check recall information carefully.

On September 6, 2024, Eagle Produce of Scottsdale, AZ issued the melon recall after routine product sampling by Michigan health officials found Salmonella in a cantaloupe purchased from a store. The recalled melon was distributed to stores between August 13 and 17 in Michigan, Missouri, Ohio, Texas, and Virginia. The Kandy cantaloupe Salmonella recall includes:

  • Kandy whole cantaloupe melon

  • Lot code 846468

This is not the first time Eagle has recalled Kandy cantaloupe for Salmonella. One year ago, the company recalled whole melon sold at Walmart and other stores. And, in October 2020, the company recalled whole and cut cantaloupe sold at Meijer stores.

Symptoms of a Salmonella Infection

Symptoms of a Salmonella infection usually develop within six to 72 hours of exposure. They include nausea, vomiting, abdominal cramps, and diarrhea that can be bloody. In cases where the infection enters the bloodstream, Salmonella causes severe illness requiring hospitalization. Complications include arterial infections, infected aneurysms, and arthritis.
