Raw pet food can sicken pets and the people who handle it. Listeria can cause severe illness and death. Among pregnant women, it can cause miscarriage, stillbirth, and premature delivery of an infected newborn even if the expectant mother experiences only mild flu-like symptoms.

Symptoms of a Listeria infection include:

  • High fever
  • Stiff Neck
  • Muscle Soreness
  • Vomiting
  • Diarrhea
  • Confusion
  • Loss of balance
  • Convulsions

Usually, these symptoms develop within 24 hours of exposure but can sometimes take as long as 70 days to appear.
