After the lead was discovered in applesauce pouches, the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) tested more cinnamon products and found elevated lead levels in items produced by the following seven companies:
- La Fiesta Food Products, La Miranda, CA
- Moran Foods, LLC, Saint Ann, MO
- Raja Foods LLC, Skokie, IL
- Greenbriar International, Inc., Chesapeake, VA
- El Chilar, Apopka, FL
- Colonna Brothers of North Bergen, NJ
- MTCI, Santa Fe Springs, CA
Because lead is toxic to humans, the FDA is warning consumers not to buy any cinnamon from these companies and to throw away any they have already purchased. The agency has requested that five of these companies issue recalls, but could not reach MTCI.
As of March 7, three of these companies have issued recalls.
