Herold’s Salads of Cleveland has issued a Listeria recall for deli salads sold at stores throughout Ohio. To see a list of products and stores click this link to the recall posted on the U.S. Food and Drug Administration’s (FDA’s) website.
The salads have “best by” dates ranging from January 14, 2024, and January 24, 2024.
Consumers who have purchased these products should not eat them as Listeria can cause severe illness and death. Among pregnant women, Listeria can cause miscarriage and stillbirths. The recall states that the company was not aware of any illnesses.
Symptoms of a Listeria Infection
Symptoms of a Listeria infection often appear within 24 hours of exposure but sometimes can take as long as 70 days to appear. They include:
- High fever, stiff neck, and other muscle aches
- Severe headache, loss of balance, confusion, and convulsions
- Upset stomach or diarrhea
Listeria poses a heightened risk to people who are 65 and over and those who have weakened immune systems. Pregnant women are 20 times more likely than other people to contract Listeria infections.
