A gas leak is the suspected source of a New Year’s Day explosion in Philadelphia that injured five people. The blast, which occurred around 2:45 a.m. in the 3500 block of Miller Street, destroyed two homes and damaged 43 others in the Port Richmond neighborhood.
Firefirefighers, who arrived at the scene within minutes, pulled two of the injured from the rubble and dug through debris to rescue another. All five of the injured people were transported to area hospitals where one of them remains in critical condition.
The Fire Marshal says the cause of the explosion is still under investigation.
