The Royal Ice Cream Company, Inc. of Manchester, CT is recalling three flavors of Batch ice cream for possible Listeria contamination. The recalled pints of vanilla, mocha chip, and ginger ice cream, were distributed to stores in Massachusetts and Connecticut.
At the time of the recall, the company was not aware of any illnesses associated with the product. However, symptoms of a Listeria infection can take as long as 70 days to develop. Consumers who have eaten the recalled ice cream should monitor themselves for symptoms of a Listeria infection which include high fever, stiff neck, other muscle stiffness, abdominal cramps, nausea, diarrhea, confusion, loss of balance, and convulsions. Among pregnant women, Listeria can cause miscarriage and stillbirth even if they experience only mild symptoms.
The recalled ice cream, packaged in paper 16-oz pints, was sold at Big Y Stores in MA and CT, and at Market Baskets and Roach Brothers Markets in MA. The “Date of Manufacture” is 1/19/22 and the “Best By” date is 7/19/23. These are found on the bottom of the pint. The UPC code are:

The problem was discovered during routine testing by the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA). The company is holding future product and testing before releasing distribution of the products. The investigation into the source of the problem is ongoing.
