A fast-growing mystery Salmonella outbreak has sickened 892 people in 39 states, according to the latest update from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC). Some illness clusters have been linked to restaurant food. Health officials are still working to pinpoint the food source, but onions, peppers, lime, and cilantro are among the suspects.

Symptoms of a Salmonella Infection
Symptoms of a Salmonella infection include abdominal cramps, nausea, fever, vomiting, and diarrhea that can be bloody. These symptoms usually develop within six to 72 hours after eating contaminated food. The people sickened in this outbreak, who range in age from less than 1 year to 97 years, reported the onset of symptoms on dates ranging from May 31, 2021, to September 29, 2021.
Health officials have interviewed 892 of the patients. Of those, 183 were so sick they needed to be hospitalized.
