Cyclospora is a parasite. When people eat food that is contaminated with microscopic amounts of fecal matter containing Cyclospora they develop an intestinal infection called cyclosporiasis. These illnesses are usually associated with travel to developing countries and imported produce.
Symptoms of an infection usually develop within a week of exposure and can last week or months if untreated. They include diarrhea that is explosive or watery (most common), loss of appetite, weight loss, cramping, bloating, increased gas, nausea and fatigue.
