The Cyclospora outbreak linked to imported basil has hit Minnesota hard, sickening at least 35 people who ate at restaurants in Duluth, Hermantown, and Rochester. About 27 percent of all cases reported so far in the 11-state outbreak occurred in Minnesota.
The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) last updated the case totals on July 24. At that time, here’s the number of illnesses each state was reporting : CT (1), FL (22), GA (2), IA (2), MA (1), MN (29), NY (69), OH (3), RI (1), SC (1), and WI (1). “The number of cases in Minnesota has already increased since then and I am sure totals from other states will rise before this outbreak ends,” said Food Safety Attorney Fred Pritzker. All 35 Cyclospora cases reported in Minnesota were linked to restaurant food. Twenty-six are associated with City Market in Rochester, four are associated with Outback Steakhouse in Hermantown, and five are associated with meals catered by Duluth Grill.
