If a JB Hunt truck or driver caused you or a loved one to be injured, you may be entitled to sue for compensation.
JB Hunt Transport trucks were involved in more than 1,500 crashes in the two-year period that ended Feb. 25, 2019. No fewer than 35 of those accidents were fatal and another 490 of them injured someone. According to truck safety and crash records kept by the Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration (FMCSA), Arizona-based JB Hunt operates more than 17,600 rigs and drove 1.2 billion miles in 2018.
You can sue JB Hunt if you or a loved one has been injured in a truck crash involving an at-fault JB Hunt driver or vehicle. If a loved one died in the crash, you can potentially file a JB Hunt lawsuit on the basis of “wrongful death.’’

Pritzker Hageman’s research indicates that 15.5 percent of JB Hunt trucks were judged “out of service’’ by transportation safety inspectors during a recent two-year period. The raw data from FMCSA showed that 1,695 of 10,943 inspections resulted in “out of service’’ findings. FMCSA’s inspections of JB Hunt’s drivers found nearly 1 percent “out of service” over the same time period.
Choosing a truck accident lawyer
JB Hunt tractor-trailers carry a lot of U.S. mail and agricultural payloads. The company has faced semi-truck accident lawsuits in the past. Get a free consultation to understand your legal rights and learn what happens next.
In 2015, an Indiana woman and her family won a $32.5 million verdict in a lawsuit against JB Hunt. In the accident, a driver for the company allegedly was going too fast on Interstate 65, skidded on the road and jack-knifed into the median. Later, the driver from Indiana veered into the tractor-trailer along the freeway. She suffered a coma, permanent brain injuries and continues to be bound to a wheelchair to this day. The lawsuit said the truck driver failed to follow mandated safety rules, including the failure to turn on flashers and mark the roadway with reflective triangles.
Special laws apply to injury crashes involving commercial trucks and buses. A good truck accident lawyer will know to send a spoliation letter as soon as possible after the accident to prevent the company and/or driver from altering or destroying evidence.
In addition, the chain of accountability for injuries and deaths doesn’t necessarily stop at the trucking company. Depending on the circumstances, your attorney can and should seek damages from the owner of freight being hauled inside the trailer or flatbed, the maker of any defective truck part, the service company responsible for any faulty truck maintenance, the owner of the truck cab or the driver himself.
No amount of money can compensate a family for serious injuries or the wrongful death of a loved one, but litigation holds motor carriers, insurance companies, and commercially licensed drivers accountable when transportation safety laws and norms are violated.
