Two people are hospitalized after a house explosion in Prince Frederick, MD on May 28. William and Tacy Gash, the owners of the home located in the 4000 block of Sparkleberry Court, were inside the house when the blast occurred around 11:00 a.m. but their daughter Shelby, who is about to graduate from high school, was not home.
Investigators say a gas leak is a suspected source of the explosion, which completely destroyed the home. The Gashes were reportedly trying to track down the source of an odd odor before the blast occurred.

Neighbor Sharon Lyster told Fox 5 News that she and her husband Peter were outside gardening when they heard a huge explosion followed by a series of smaller ones and saw the house engulfed in flames. She called 911 and her husband ran to help. Peter found William first, badly burned and covered in debris. “And he just looks up at my husband and he says, ‘I think I’m going to die, Pete.’ And Peter said, ‘Not today, not on my watch.’” Lyster told News 5.
The Lysters found Tacy and brought the couple to safety as more than 60 firefighters descended on the scene. It took them five hours to bring the fire under control.
First responders wanted to airlift the Gashes to a hospital but wind conditions prevented it. Instead, they were transported by ambulance to MedStar Washington Hospital. Tacy may be released next week, William is expected to remain there for up to a month, according to one of two GoFundMe pages that have been for the family.
