Two people died in Otter Tail County yesterday, February 5, 2017, when a car attempted to pass and hit an SUV head-on.
A Chevy Tracker, a small SUV, was eastbound on Highway 29, two miles East of Deer Creek. An Oldsmobile Alero was traveling westbound on Highway 29. The Oldsmobile was attempting to pass and crossed the center line, colliding head-on with the Chevy. The driver of the Chevy, a 63-year-old woman from Parkers Prairie, MN, and the driver of the Oldsmobile both sustained fatal injuries, according to a Minnesota State Patrol report. The passenger of the Oldsmobile, a 2-year-old, sustained non-life threatening injuries.
The head-on collision happened at about 3:15 Sunday, February 5, 2017, on Highway 29, just east of Deer Creek, MN.

A GM Sierra and semi-truck collided on Highway 71 in Renville County, MN. The driver of the Sierra did not survive, and the truck driver was treated at Redwood County Hospital.
A wife and mother died when a drunk driver hit her car. There were also three of her children in her vehicle, two of whom were injured. This mother was only 35 years old. The young man who killed her had stolen the SUV.
Another death caused by an intoxicated driver happened in Wright County. A pickup driven by a man who was later jailed for suspected DUI and charged with criminal vehicular homicide hit a man from Waconia, MN, who was crossing the road at an intersection. The pedestrian had the right-of-way.
Two of these incidents were caused by drivers who had been drinking alcohol. Two people would still be alive if those drivers had not made the choice to drink and drive.
