Four people tested positive for Salmonella food poisoning after eating at Johnny Ray’s located at 309 Huntley Parkway, Pelham, Alabama, the Alabama Department of Public Health stated in a press release issued today. Two of the four cases have matching patterns of a rare Salmonella Enteritidis.
Other potential cases of Salmonella are being investigated. the restaurant was closed today, January 8, 2016, by emergency order, following visits by the Bureau of Environmental Services on December 15 and 22, and January 6.
Salmonella outbreaks linked to restaurants generally involve food that is contaminated with the dangerous bacteria at some point between farm and fork. In many outbreaks, health officials are unable to determine what food was contaminated. Even if the source of the outbreak is not found, those sickened may have the right to sue the restaurant.
