Pre-Cut Cantaloupe and Other Melons Sold at Kroger Linked to Salmonella Outbreak
77 people from nine states were sickened in an outbreak of Salmonella Adelaide infections: Arizona (1), Florida (1), Illinois (7), Indiana (14), Kentucky (1), Michigan (39), Missouri (11), Ohio (2), Tennessee (1). The outbreak was linked to products that contained melons produced at the Caito Foods on June 8, 2018, according to the CDC. On June 8, 2018, Caito Foods, LLC recalled fresh-cut watermelon, honeydew melon, cantaloupe, and fresh-cut fruit medley products containing one of these melons that were produced at the Caito Foods facility in Indianapolis, Indiana. Some of these products were distributed to Kroger grocery stores.
Sunflower Seeds Recall
In 2016, several companies recalled products containing sunflower seeds because of the risk of the seeds being contaminated with a dangerous foodborne pathogen called Listeria monocytogenes. No illnesses were reported. Kroger recalled the following products: Kroger Salad Toppers Sunflower Kernels, UPC 0001111002127, Sell By: DEC0316 and DEC0416, 3.5 oz.; Kroger Sunflower Kernels, UPC 0001111061877, Sell By: DEC1116, DEC1316 and DEC1416, 6 oz.; and Kroger Cranberry Delight Trail Mix, UPC 0001111089869, Sell By: MAR0917, MAR1017, MAR1117 and APR1117, 14 oz.
Recalled Cucumbers Distributed to Kroger and Other Companies
Hundreds of people in 40 states were sickened in a 2015 outbreak of Salmonella Poona infections linked to cucumbers. In connection with this outbreak, there were 2 recalls of cucumbers distributed by Andrew & Williamson Fresh Produce: on September 4, 2015, Andrew & Williamson Fresh Produce voluntarily recalled cucumbers sold under the Limited Edition brand label that were distributed from August 1, 2015 through September 3, 2015. On September 11, Custom Produce Sales voluntarily recalled cucumbers sold under the Fat Boy brand label from August 1, 2015 to about a month thereafter. Some of these cucumbers were distributed to Kroger stores.
