Tragic School Bus Accident Takes 3 Lives
Our thoughts are with the families of 3 people who died when two school buses collided on Asheville Highway in Knoxville, Tennessee.
Several children from kindergarten through third grade were injured. Three of them were transported to University of Tennessee Medical Center with serious injuries. 20 students were transported to East Tennessee Children’s Hospital.
Why Did the Driver of Bus No. 44 Lose Control?
The bus accident is under investigation. At this time, it appears that Chilhowee Intermediate School bus No. 44 was traveling east on Asheville Highway when he made a sharp left-hand turn and crossed over the median. That bus then broadsided Knox County Schools bus No. 57 which was transporting several students from Sunnyview Primary School. The impact flipped Bus No. 57 onto its side and sliding to the westbound lanes of traffic.
Police have not released information indicating why the driver lost control of bus No. 44. Our experience is that it will best for all if this is determined as quickly as possible.
