U.S. DOT Recall News
Both the U.S. Department of Transportation’s (U.S. DOT) Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration (FMCSA) and the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) are involved in truck and trailer recalls.
- Fabform Industries, Inc. (Fabform) recalled certain 2017-2018 Fabform Power Tilt dump trailers. The recall was issued because the hinges welded on the bottom frame may fracture and the dump box may unexpectedly fall, increasing the risk of injury or death. For those affected, dealers will install gussets with reinforced welds to the existing hinges, free of charge. The start date was September 13, 2018.
- Daimler Trucks North America LLC recalled certain 2017-2019 Freightliner Cascadia, Coronado and 122SD, and Western Star 4900 trucks equipped with Cummins ISX15 or X15 diesel engines. According to the company, “in certain driving conditions, such as on a long down-hill grade, the fuel line may burst if the fuel pump cooling circuit screen becomes restricted.” The result could be a road hazard from a fuel leak or a stalled truck. The start date is October 28, 2018.
- MAC Trailer Mfg., Inc. recalled certain 2019 Dump and Waste trailers in September of 2018. The reason for this action was that the wheel end nut locking device on these trailers may not be properly installed, allowing the wheel end to separate from the axle, increasing the risk of crash. If your vehicle is affected, the company has stated that, free of charge, dealers will inspect the locking nut to ensure that it is properly installed, correcting it as necessary.
