Tutogen Tendon/Bone Graft: Lawyer for HIV, Hepatitis B or C, and Syphilis
Tutogen Medical, Inc., processes human tissue to create tendon and bone implant/graft products. According to the Food and Drug Administration (FDA), LifeCell Corporation purchased tissue it used to process bone and tendon graft/implant products from Biomedical Tissue Services (BTS) of Fort Lee, New Jersey. BTS and 4 of its officers and employees have been charged with illegally harvesting human tissue, including skin. According to the FDA, BTS tissue used by Tutogen was not tested for HIV, Hepatitis B, Hepatitis C or syphilis.
The untested Tutogen graft tissue may have been used by a surgeon or other medical doctor for a number of different surgical procedures, including the following:
- Bone-tendon-bone implants
- Ligament replacement
A subsidiary of Tutogen, Zimmer Dental, may have used illegal BTS bone grafts for dental procedures.
Persons who have had a Tutogen tendon/bone graft or a Zimmer Dental bone graft should be tested for HIV, Hepatitis B, Hepatitis C and syphilis.
