Tissue Implant: Attorney and Blood and Tissue Center of Central Texas Information
According to the Food and Drug Administration (FDA), Blood and Tissue Center of Central Texas, may have distributed tissue implant products, including allograft tissue products, bone grafts and tendon grafts that were not tested for HIV, Hepatitis B, Hepatitis C and syphilis. Tissue Center of Central Texas provides human allograft tissue products for orthopedic, spinal, brain, heart, and burn surgeries. The tissue would have been distributed for use in hospitals, dental clinics, and other medical facilities prior to the October 11, 2005, FDA recall of the tissue products.
The tissue in question would have been initially purchased by Blood and Tissue Center of Central Texas from Biomedical Tissue Services (BTS) of Fort Lee, New Jersey. BTS has been charged with illegally harvesting human tissue, bones and tendons. According to the FDA, the federally-required testing for HIV, Hepatitis B, Hepatitis C, and syphilis [21 CFR 1270.21] was not done by BTS before it was sold to Tissue Center of Central Texas.
